Why did people keep repeating small business as the victim of the tax expiration?

When over 90% of small businesses don't make enough money to have been affected? Why didn't the media call them out on this every time they mentioned it?

Remember the original plan was to keep in place the tax cut for incomes below 200 or 250K.

Update:

http://www.businessweek.com/smallbiz/content/mar20...

I've seen it multiple places in the past. Here's one.

Update 2:

You'd have to make MORE than 250,000 dollars a year to get taxed anyway. Remember, not all income is TAXABLE income.

Update 3:

@El Tecolote: Then I guess over 90% of small businesses don't deserve to be called small businesses in your world.

Update 4:

@Spooky Dude: Eddy J has a good point. Who defined what a small business is? And just because you think a 1 million dollar business is a small business doesn't mean you're right either, Eddy. There should be an official definition so we can't be misled about this. Until there's an agreed upon definition, this question is nonsensical.

Update 5:

Apologies, I must have read who said what wrong. It was you spooky dude who said that

Unbelievable skewing of reality. And nowhere in your link does it define what a small business is, much less address anything related to small business. It only addresses the net income of business owners.

Obama says that most small businesses do not earn over $250,000 a year. That is clearly a lie. It is impossible. It cannot be true. Now, the employees of a small business might believe it. Most employees don't get to see the books. But if you're an employee of small business, and there are five or six other employees in your small business (and that's a small business) just add up your combined salaries and find out if your small business has enough to pay them. If you're making $50,000 a year at a small business and there are five of you, that's $250,000 right there.

The Obama plan essentially taxes the working capital of successful small business risk takers resulting in a reduction in headcount and an inability to reinvest in technology. Many folks who create policy never met a payroll or risked their own capital. They do not understand business. Many closely held business owners will be crushed by higher taxes on their earned income and operating capital. This is extremely bad tax policy.

Sorry iris, but referencing political BLOGS and questionable sources like politifacts does nothing to pedal this massive lie being touted by far left kooks and the lapdog media.

Reduce the income tax is the symble of democracy.

A small business that does not take in AT LEAST $250K a year cannot keep up with overhead such as insurance, electric, gas, water and exterminator bills, payroll, payroll taxes, property taxes, gross receipts taxes, capital gains taxes, road and fuel taxes, social security taxes and excise taxes, along with any unforeseen emergency expenses, maintenance expenses and cleaning bills.

In other words, if enough people think the way you do, people like Obama get elected.

Dude, you live in this very same world. You're just simply too ignorant, too inexperienced and too naive to understand it. If you weren't, you wouldn't be holding the position you're holding.

$250 K IS a small business. A fairly successful one. Then come the overhead expenses that dwindle it down. Add a big tax bill on top of it and you could effectively snuff it out. Please provide a link or source for your claim of 90%.

Update: I read your link and it only addresses their household income not their small business income. But ty for trying.

""98 percent of small businesses make less than $250,000" and would not see a tax increase under Barack Obama's plan."

Most small businesses won't be subject to Obama's tax increases

    TRUE

How come people around here don't look stuff up and give sources?

The whole thing about small businesses was more phoney baloney from the Republicans. They don't care a bit about small business:

Republicans say no to help for small businesses

Republicans say no to teachers, firefighters and police, & no to closing tax loopholes that help send our jobs overseas
