    Hi,

    4(x-3)+7 = 23

    4(x-3) = 16

    x - 3 = 4

    x = 7

    Cheers,

    Bogdan

    Here is how to solve it:

    4(x-3)+7=23

    Use distributive property (Multiply x by 4 and -3 by 4)

    4x-12+7=23

    Combine like terms (-12+7)

    4x-5=23

    Inverse operations (Add 5 to -5 and 23)

    4x=28

    Divide both sides by 4 (4/4 and 28/4)

    x=7

    x=7. 7-3=4. 4(4)plus 7=23

    Use the distributive property

    4x + -12 + 7 = 23

    4x + -5 + 23

    add 5 to both sides

    4x = 28

    x = 7

    First step: Multiply everything inside the parenthesis by the 4 outside the parenthesis. 4 times x and four times negative three. This would give you 4x -12.

    Second step: Plug that information into the rest of the equation. 4x - 12 +7 = 23

    Third step: Combine like terms on the left side of the equation. 4x (-12 + 7) = 23 becomes 4x - 5 = 23

    Fourth step: Isolate x on one side of the equation by adding 5 to BOTH sides of the equation. 4x - 5 + 5 = 23 + 5 becomes 4x = 28

    Fifth step: Solve for x by dividing both sides of the equation by 4 (4x/4) = (28/4) becomes x = ? ( I can't do the WHOLE thing for ya... hehe)

    Hope this helps. The main thing to remember is that you need to get your variable isolated on one side, with all non-variables on the other. Follow your normal steps (PEMDAS... Parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction) in order, and you should be fine.

    Good luck!

    Well firstly expand the brackets on the left hand side by multiplying 4 by (x-3) like so:

    4x - 12 + 7 = 23

    This obviously simplifies to 4x - 5 = 23

    Now simply add 5 to both sides:

    4x = 28

    Now simply divide both sides by 4 to find x:

    x = 7

    There you go! Happy new year!

    see dear

    4(x-3)+7=23

    => 4x-12+7=23 [as 4Xx=4x and 4X3=12]

    =>4x-5=23

    =>4x=23+5=28

    =>x=28/4

    Thus, x=7

    Hope i helped u

    4(x-3) +7=23

    4x - 12 + 7 = 23

    4x = + 12 - 7 + 23

    4x = 28

    x = 7
