My dad is in his 60's.

Our company offered long term health care policy at a discount that we could "gift" to him.

    A perk.

We called - cost is $7,000 a year.

Conclusion: We decided to save that $7,000 a year in case we decide to take care of our parents on our own in the future.

(this cost was for each parent - not just one)...

How long is a red string? A black string? And a green string?

It depends a WAY LOT on exactly what the coverages are, and their health. These policies are NOT standardized, so a crappy policy for a 65 year old could possibly cost less than a fantastic policy for a 40 year old.

Depends on location, deductibles, coverage, etc. Call around to companies offering the policies to get estimates.

The premiums vary - like life insurance - because it involves medical underwriting at the time of application.

$1,000 - $10,000 per year. Toni should have called an insurance broker. Group insurance is usually expensive, so she could have saved money and had more options looking in more than one place.
