I have a good friend who is Wiccan and i am her secret santa. I was trying to think of an awesome gift for under 20 bucks. my idea was to get a spell or prayer printed on nice paper and get it framed.

1. is this a good idea?

2. what should I get printed?

since i know little about the belief I turn to you guys.

thanks

Well, if you want to get her a Wiccan gift, candles are always good. A spell can be a good idea, but it depends on whether or not other people know she is Wiccan, and where you are giving her this gift. If you are giving it to her in front of a bunch of people, a spell may not be such a good idea, or if her parents/roommates don't know or don't approve than that might not be such a good idea.

If she is Wiccan, than the Wiccan Rede would be nice.

It is neither a prayer (Wiccans don't really pray) or a spell (one doesn't frame a spell)

A 'short version' goes like this: "An It Harms None, Do As Ye Will"

If you know any pagan authors she likes, you can get nice books for under 20.

Isn't this a little late for Secret Santa gift giving?

  • Not a bad idea. Sounds like a decent gift to me. Part of or the full Wiccan Rede might be a good idea. Such as the line "An it harm none do what ye will"

Also if she does not have a part of her witches tools such as a wand or broom that might be a appreciated gift. I made a wand for well under 5 dollars worth of materials as a gift for someone. Though you might not know so much about making one as an actual Wiccan so the 1st option is still good.

Candles, Incense, etc. are nice too. The Wiccan Rede or the Charge of the Goddess is nice too. And try Azure Green or Isis Books, they already have posters that are Wiccan-themed printed on nice paper, but you would have to frame it...sounds like a nice idea ^_^

Not so much a spell, spells are meant to be handwritten by the caster not handed over to another. A prayer would be nice and it would be best to focus in on what kind of Wicca she is, who does she honor? You wouldn't want to give a prayer to Odin when she spends her time convening with Astarte! So your best bet is to ask her about her beliefs so you can best find the most suitable prayer or poem.

And if that doesn't work candles and incense are ALWAYS a great gift!

You need to find out which Deities your friend follows and find a prayer that suits one of them, also find out if she is a witch who is also a Wiccan since not all Wiccans are witches and so spells may not be appropriate.

Another suggestion is if she likes jewelry there are some fairly reasonable silver charms or pendents that you might look at as well.

Remember she is also a person who might like teas, stationary, treats, scarves, even waxes with seals (possibly with her initial on it). So thinking of just a Wicca gift might limit you.

I happen to be an amateur artist so art supplies are something I enjoy.

    Clever lad/lass!

Waiting until the Boxing Day sales! As a wiccan myself I would love it. Have it done on rice or parchment paper and put into a "shadow box" you can make them cheap yourself on the net.

Try this website or witchvox.com for ideas:

Thank you for being such a good friend and respecting her religion. Failing that, why not take her out to lunch and say that is your Christmas/Happy New Year's gift...

There is a great catalog called the Pyramid Collection, and they have an online catalog as well. They have tons of Wiccan gifts that might be in your budget.

I am with Nightwind on this but if you must get them something wiccan I would suggest 'The Charge of The Goddess' its a beautiful piece. http://herbalmusings.com/posters.htm

Other things might be one of those posters with all the phases of the moon for the year ahead. http://www.angelfire.com/nh/lunarphase/colorsample...

Some of us don't like being solely identified by our religion. Yes, she's Wiccan, but I'm guessing she's lots of other things too. She has hobbies, favorites movies, etc., just like everyone else.

Also, where is the exchange being done? At work? I would warn against religious gifts at work.

The spell idea doesn't make a lot of sense, and we're not big on standardized prayers. If you want to go with a religious printing, I would suggest the Charge of the Goddess (http://wicca.timerift.net/laws/charge_goddess.shtm... or perhaps the Descent of the Goddess (http://wicca.timerift.net/laws/descent.shtml).
