How to dress in winter?

Myself and my husband recently moved from Texas to Boston. It is too cold here and last weekend we had our first snow storm. We were not dressed properly and froze to death just to get in and out of car. Now I have to commute nearly 40 minutes in train to work. Please suggest me how I should dress up for winter? should i wear long underwear or thermals? where can i get them? also what kinda shoes i should wear?

Update:

It rarely snows in texas. Last year we had considerable amount of snow for a day or two and it vanished overnight, but the temperature never drops below freezing, jeans and light jacket was always comfy for me. But here jeans were not enuf and i dont feel my hand, toe fingers and my nose. btw when spring starts in Boston? :( am so desperate for it.

Layering is the most important tip to stay warm in winter. Just layer your tank tops under long sleeved shirts/flannels and throw on a jacket. When it comes to pants, if you anticipate spending time in the cold, then the same tip applies here; layering.

You can find great warm leggings to wear under other pants here:

Here is a cute coat that you could get that is pretty cheap but good for layering:

You can find a nice pair of gloves pretty much anywhere.

You can get long underwear pretty much anywhere. Target, Walmart, department stores. Wear shoes or boots that are heavy and non-slip so you don't fall on the ice. Get yourself a really good coat and wear a lot of layers, you can always take some off when you get to work. Also get a hat, gloves and scarf, they'll help keep you warm!

I live in Montreal and it's freezing here in the winter.

Get a nice warm coat and boots. A good company for them would be Colombia or the North Face. Really warm, waterproof, and comfy. :)

You should wear long underwear and layer! Wear scarves, a warm hat, undershirts, sweaters, etc.

If it isn't snowing, get UGG boots, they're warm but not too waterproof.

God I moved from Florida to Colorado(in its snowiest of years) I feel you ;) but just get some cute snow boots or if you want heels get cute booties. You could go to Target and get long underwear if you need too and just wear long sleeves and coats or scarves anything thats warm. Sadly you'll have to ditch shorts and tanktops during the winter =( does it even snow in Texas?? =)

put on two pairs of socks and a pair of trousers then tuck the trousers into the socks. get another pair of trousers and put them over the top of your other trousers.

then get a top put it on and tuck it into your trousers

then get a jumper( with a hood) and put it on and tuck it into your trousers

get a pair of gloves that go up past your wrists and tuck your sleeves of your jumpers into them.

    then put a jacket on

a second pair of gloves on

put a hat on put your hood over it and finish off with a pair of boots

and a scarf if needed :) good luck!
