I need help with a young girl that thinks satan will help her more than God....?

I am simply asking for advice. I am a youth leader and a young girl I know asked me last night around 10pm she said her friend worships satan and she was feeling like satan would be more helpful to her than God. She knows about God, she was raised to believe in God and I do want to help her sort out her feelings in this matter. I do not want to be preachy or bible thumping, because, lets face it we all know that hardly works in this culture. Does anyone have similar stories with people struggling with this or have you been struggling with it, what would you advise, would be the best way to approach it. Obviously I do not want her to feel like satan can give her more. Satan is no tthe answer and I was hoping for any helpful advice in helping her see the whole picture. She is like 13 and pretty dramatic in case that helps. Thanks

Update:

Thank you to the ones who have ACTUALLY helped me if there is anyone else with actual advice and not opinions keep posting please.

Update 2:

Go flossi, I know for a fact that there is severe parental issues too thanks so much.

Lucy, thanks, websites can be really helpful and I could use as much as possible, because I have no idea where to look.

Below is a response I recently gave to a teen who asked the difference between God and Satan.

The Bible makes it very clear that Satan will never change his ways and therefore there is no reason to pray that he will.

After all, Satan is absolutely opposed to God; he always has been and always will be. He isn't like any other creature; he is an evil, malevolent spiritual power whose single goal is to block God's will. (Incidentally, one of the ways he does this is by persuading us that prayer isn't important, although prayer is one of the ways God uses to accomplish His will.) Satan's ultimate destiny, Jesus taught, is "the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels" (Matthew 25:41).

No, we aren't to pray for Satan but we certainly should pray against him! We should pray that his plans will be blocked, and that those who follow him won't carry out their evil schemes. The psalmist prayed, "Confuse the wicked, O Lord, confound their speech, for I see violence and strife" (Psalm 55:9).

Don't ever doubt that God is far, far stronger than Satan. Satan's power is limited; God's power is limitless. Satan's power is temporary; God's power is eternal. Satan's power is entirely evil; God's power is entirely good.

Furthermore, Satan is part of the creation—but God is the Creator. In fact, the Bible repeatedly calls God the "Sovereign Lord"—because that is what He is. It says, "Sovereign Lord ... you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them" (Acts 4:24). Satan didn't make the world; God did—and God is still in control of it, because He is sovereign.

Yes, Satan has a certain measure of power, and we often see his power at work today. How else can we explain some of the terrible things that happen? Never forget that Satan has one goal: to block God's work wherever he can. To do this he will use every trick he can to deceive us and turn us away from Christ.

But someday Christ will return and destroy the devil's work. Satan is a defeated foe! Until that day, make it your goal to follow Christ. The Bible says, "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8). Don't become his next victim!

If you imagine that you can stop a 13 year old from being dramatic and delusional, you're probably mistaken. Let her have fun with the whole 'satan' thing if that's what she feels like doing, in her adolescent, desperate, silliness. It won't do her any lasting harm nor will it harm anyone else, and maybe she'll figure things out on her own if you let her indulge her early teen fantasy instead of trying to squelch it. You KNOW there isn't any real satan, so really what harm can she possibly do?

Be preachy! You must be firm with young people who may be ready to throw their lives away. I suspect that she may have not entertained the notion if her friend didn't already claim to be doing it. Have her invite her friend to youth group and have some fun.

Tell her that Satan does 3 things, he kills, he steals and he destroys. He is responsible for evil.

Since God is all good and loving, how can evil be so appealing to her? Christians do things that are kind and loving and helpful and those worshiping the dark are the exact opposite. This young girl can not possibly be attracted to hate.

She may be feeling lonely or unloved by her parents. I think there is more to this than just devil worship.

I have students like this too, especially ones that have gotten into contacting the spirit realm. It is really quite dangerous, and most people end up being harassed by them after a while. It's just a trap. This is especially a problem in Africa and South America.

I will say though, when teaching the truth, you do need to use the Bible. It's been the most effective for me, because it helps people, even young people to recognize that it's God looking out for them, not just me giving my personal opinions. But, you do have to combine using the Bible with reasoning. Use questions to get their mind on the matter.

Below is a website you can do more Bible research on how to reason with people on the subject you are looking for.

Why not practice religious tolerance, and help her to find out about religions that worship gods other than the one you do, and you might include the posslbility that there are no gods.

You know what would help her? Stop brainwashing her with fairytale garbage and let her taste reality and maybe some fresh air outside of the church yard.

  • Ask her for credible proof of the existence of supernatural characters.

  • Show them a few websites around hell or hell fire.......show them a picture of a house in a fire....and let your friend know Satan wants to drag your friend to be burnt and suffer....but God offers her Heaven......a place of comfort.

Worry not, there is no satan. Let her explore, she will be back.

God is love, love is universal.
