I am pregnant with my second baby, about 10 weeks. Today I went to get my OB bloodwork (the usual ...)?

... the usual OB bloodwork - total CBC, Rh, Rubella immunity, etc. but they also had me give a urine sample. I'm wondering what this was for because I don't remember giving a urine sample at this stage in my last pregnancy??? It wasnt to test for HCG, because I had a blood test for that at my very first appointment. For this test I had to use one of those prepackaged towelettes, wipe front to back, then pee in a cup (sorry if that's TMI). It was a little messy to be honest! It was NOT the usual dipstick test they do in the office to test for sugar in the urine.

Any idea what this test was for? I wanted to ask the lab tech when I came out of the restroom, but she wasn't available wheN I came out so I just left.

Update:

Thanks asrai and mommy, but this was not at a prenatal appt with my doctor. This was at the lab when I got the bloodwork done. So is it the same thing- utis, protein etc?

At every appointment with both my daughter and son,I had to leave a urine sample the same way,and it was so they could check for UTIs,protein in the urine, etc, and most women do have to leave regular urine samples like that while pregnant.

i had to do that all throughout my pregnancy... and you'll probably have too, as well. as the other person said, its for uti's and they also track the level of protein... what works great to keep it a little less messy... is to just press it up against you... i always did that and i never missed! haha

Urinary tract infection. They should at every pre-natal.
