  • Brown / Dark Reddish Brown Vaginal Discharge?

I'm on day 14 of my cycle, and experiencing dark brown/tan and dark reddish brown vaginal discharge - only very, very little, only visible on toilet paper. What could this be, as I've never experienced this before? I've read things on ovulation bleeding, possible pregnancy, endometriosis, or even cervical cancer!??!

I will add that I had, what I believe to be, ovulation pain late last week (on days 10-11 of my cycle) which is actually a bit early for typical ovulation .... I am not on birth control.

  • What are my chances? I think pretty good ...?

I had a period on 7/4 for 4 days. Baby dance on 7/14 (day 11 post period), positive LH surge on ovulation predictor kit on 7/15 (day 12 post period), baby dance again on 7/16 (day 13 post period).

Also, tiny bit of bloody mucus yesterday (7/18) which is day 15 post period.

  • I am pregnant with my second baby, about 10 weeks. Today I went to get my OB bloodwork (the usual ...)?

... the usual OB bloodwork - total CBC, Rh, Rubella immunity, etc. but they also had me give a urine sample. I'm wondering what this was for because I don't remember giving a urine sample at this stage in my last pregnancy??? It wasnt to test for HCG, because I had a blood test for that at my very first appointment. For this test I had to use one of those prepackaged towelettes, wipe front to back, then pee in a cup (sorry if that's TMI). It was a little messy to be honest! It was NOT the usual dipstick test they do in the office to test for sugar in the urine.

Any idea what this test was for? I wanted to ask the lab tech when I came out of the restroom, but she wasn't available wheN I came out so I just left.

  • Any experience with toddler biting?

My son is almost 20 months and has a repetitive biting issue at daycare. He does not do it anywhere else. It seems he does it out of frustration or, at times, anger.

He does not exhibit any symptoms of autism or other problems - he shows affection, is interactive with me and his father, smiles and laughs easily, imitates us (faces, sounds, etc.), he is interactive with other family members and friends, and with other children (he is an only child right now). He has positive interactions with other kids also, but I really feel as if our daycare administration is acting as if THEY think he has some sort of disorder. I am not kidding myself, I have done a LOT of reading on autism and other behavioral issues, and the biting is the only problem this kid seems to have. Other than that he appears to be a typical almost-2 year old who gets p*ssed off when other kids try to take toys from him or get too close for comfort. Because of all of this, I am in turmoil because I know only I know my child the way that I do, but I can't help but feel conflicted by what the daycare seems to be insinuating. I want to trust my instincts.

We are taking him to see a specialist, but until then I am completely anxiety-ridden about this. Any input would be helpful.

  • What to do about toddler biting?

My son is 17 months old, almost 18 months. He has been biting other children at daycare over and over again, to the point I fear they might kick him out. He is not an angry child, he just is not communicating very well and when a child gets in his way or in his space, or tries to take a toy from him, he bites them. He does nto appear to be teething because he has almost all of his teeth.

He has bitten me before, and his father, but not out of anger or frustration – he just puts his mouth on everything and it usually ends up being a bite! I have tried speaking sharply to him, saying “ouch, that hurts mommy,” fake crying, etc. but he thinks it is all a game. I should add that he is not speaking very well yet, he has some words and he definitely understands words, but he just has not been up to par with other kids his age, according to the daycare.

This is my first child so I would appreciate comparing notes with other mothers whose children have or had biting problems.

  • Mommies of 1-year-olds: What is your child's bedtime routine?

My son is 1 year old + 1 month, and I still give him a bottle of whole milk at bedtime. I know it's time to get him entirely off the bottle (he drinks sippy cups during the day - but I'm worried not enough) so I want to get him off of the bedtime bottle, but he LOVES it and I feel terrible taking it from him! So just wondering what other kids' bedtime routines are ..... we have bath, bottle, then bed .... sometimes a story.

  • Can pinworms be treated in infants (under age 2)?

My son is 10 months old, and we think he may have pinworms. The pediatrician says the medication for it can not be given to children under 2. Is there any other alternative?

  • Baby has terrible diaper rash ... probably due to antiobiotic for ear infection?

My son is on Augmentin for an ear infection, and he is having 3 or 4 bowel movements per day, resulting in a TERRIBLE diaper rash. Looks like it could blister but it's mostly flat but angry red. Is there anything more I can do for it besides the typical zinc oxide diaper creams??

  • Can you use Vicks VapoSteam (the menthol stuff) for babies with a cold/cough?

The directions say to talk to a doctor first - I have left a message with my doctor, but wanted to know what experienced moms on here have done? My son is almost 9 months old, has a cold (more nose congestion than cough) and we have used the vaporizer but not with the vapo steam liquid)

  • 8 month old teething problems - experienced moms, please help?

My 8 month old son, who has been a GREAT sleeper up until about a month ago, is teething to the point that he will sleep for a stretch at night, then wake up screaming and will NOT let me put him down, even though he falls asleep in my arms. He also started daycare this week, which I think is contributing to his restlessness. The problem is, he seems totally happy during the day, but will sleep anywhere from 4-8 hours at night, then wake up and scream his head off.

I have given him Motrin, tried the baby Orajel, etc. to no avail - anyone have any advice on dealing with a teething baby and helping him (and me and his daddy) to get some rest??? I am at the end of my rope and need sleep but I feel terrible because I know he is in pain .... trying to keep my patience, since I know all things like this will eventually pass, but it is getting SO difficult to calm him in the middle of the night.

Any advice??? Something I am not doing, that I should be doing, to help him feel better and get some rest?

  • When should baby begin drinking less formula / eating more baby food or table foods?

My son seems to not want the bottle as much anymore - used to drink 8 oz at a time, now will drink only 5-6 on occasion, sometimes will finish an 8 oz bottle. When do babies typically begin dropping off the amount of formula drank? This is my first, so I am new to much of this ...

  • Where is the best place to locate information on safety ratings for convertible car seats?

I would like to be ready for the next size up car seat for my son, who is almost 8 months old and will soon outgrow his infant car seat. He still fits into it per the weight and height restrictions, but he just looks uncomfortable in it, like his legs are scrunched up since he's still rear-facing. I would like to find a bigger car seat that will accommodate him for a few years beyond 1 yo.

  • Seriously, WHEN can I tell that baby is ready for more solid foods (chunky stuff or toast, cheerios?

I asked this question before and I think I am irrationally terrified that my son will choke to death. He has 2 teeth on the bottom, which he obviously doesn't chew with. How do I know when he is ready to mash foods with his gums?? How is this even possible?!

  • What are the early signs of autism in an infant, if any?

I can't find conclusive and credible informaiton on the internet on the early signs of autism in infants, 6 mos. and older.

My son is 7 mos. this week, and is VERY interactive with others - even strangers! He looks me and my husband in the eye, and anyone else who talks to him, he coos, listens when you talk to him, etc. BUT one thing that concerns me is that he taps things ... .as in, when he's in his Exersaucer he may smack one of the toys with his hand repeatedly ... or he even make smack the bottle with his hand while he's eating, or my arm when I'm burping him.

Does anyone know of any conclusive websites or autism foundations that would have more information?
