Need help with this knitting pattern?

I am a beginner at knitting. I'm knitting a men's sweater but stuck at this part.

"K 33, turn, leaving rem sts on a spare needle.Dec one st at neck edge on the next 2 rows......."

I'm confused. What exactly is a neck edge?

The neck edge is where the head goes through the sweater. One edge is where the sleeve will attach and the other is where the head goes through. You are making short rows - which is why they want you to knit for 33 stitches and then turn the work around and purl (or pattern) back without completing the row. Your pattern should tell you which decrease to make - k2tog - knit 2 together, SSK - slip, slip knit the two slipped stitches together, or SKP - slip one stitch, knit the next, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch.

    Hope this helps,

They're asking you to do short row shaping, probably for the shoulders.

The neck edge is the edge that will rest against the wearer's neck. The other edge will rest against the sleeve and be called the sleeve or arm hole edge. Shaping will not be completely symmetrical if you are knitting either a cardigan (opens up the front) or if you have to divide to go up either side of the neck (such as with a V-neck sweater and most crew neck sweaters). In either of those cases, you'll have one set of instructions for shaping the edge against the neck, and a different set of instructions for shaping the arm hole.

Look at a t-shirt and see the way the neck is, It is lower in front than the shoulders. The way you are knitting your neck opoening will give you that extra room between where the neck line is and the shoulder seam is. You will decrease at this edge to give it the roundedness for the neck opening while also working to raise the shoulder seam to the right level.
