Do people make home modifications for their service animals?

It's very common for people who have disabilities to remodel to make their home more accessible. AND lots of people will make changes to their homes to make it easier for their pets to come and go. But are there any modifications that can be done specifically to make an assistance animal's job easier?

Yes, Change the doorknobs to the lever type. Also add a piece of rope to the end of the handle so the dog can just grab the rope and pull it with their mouth. It also makes it easier for the dog to stand up to push the door open.

As another person mentioned, door knobs can be changed to lever types. A person who becomes unconscious might need a lever knob that unlocks when the lever is pulled, or a deadbolt that the service dog can open to let the paramedics in.

A doggy door would be reasonable to let the dog out when they need to go - as long as the area is securely fenced and there are no dangers out there.

Some people install a special dog toilet. Look it up on youtube.

Special buttons that can be pressed to call 911 can be placed where the animal can press them. It is important to make sure that the buttons won't get pressed accidentally.

I have a waterproof cordless phone that my dog can get for me.

most of these things can be done by yourself or someone you know. Animals do not think about an easier job they just get on and do the job at hand

Those dogs are specifically trained to do a job and they don't think of themselves. Some I've seen look pretty scronny and underfed. So I'd suppose if you wanted to make a modification it would be a good meal every once in a while or maybe a gift of a pretty collar or boots for the winter and a sweater.
