My first question ever, now I need your help?
About 8 years ago my daughter,( who is doing good now ) put me through so much crap I think I had a nervous break down. Between the crap she was doing, than getting a blood clot that put her in the hospital for 7 days and than the borderline ovarian cancer I was just spent. I went to a counselor and was prescribed Xanax for the anxiety I was feeling, 2mg 3 times a day. So here it is 8 almost 9 years later and I can't get off this stuff, I actually think it makes me worse at times. Yes, I have a tendency to abuse it at times. So my question is, anyone who has been on this and has gotten off of it how did you do it? How did you feel while coming off of it and how long did it take to get off of it? Just thinking about makes me want to take one but I am really trying not to. Serious answers only please because I know I have a problem and need to stop, just don't know how or what to expect. Thank you in advance and Happy New Years to all of you.

with a medication like that you do not just 'stop' you taper off.
I would suggest a visit to a psychologist or psychiatrist for some professional advice as well.
A combination of therapy and tapering the medication would be the best way.
You might find that you might need some kind of anti depressant or you may find you don't need any at all.
i am concerned that you have a tendency to abuse it.
That tells me there is more to your issues than just wanting to get off Xanax

But why is the doctor STILL prescribing it? Tell him he needs to terminate the prescription and you have to wean yourself off of it

Xanax is a very addictive drug and should only be used under the direct care of a physician. If you believe you are addictive then you should probably look into getting in a treatment center. Like any drug, Xanax can cause serious side effects when not used correctly.

Go to rehab if you can. And join narcotics anonymous also. You are an addict and should use all the resources available to get yourself off of your addictive drug.
