How do I get rid of the bad taste from my new waffle iron?

I've made seven waffles and they all have a bad after taste. How do you get rod of out? Anyone else have this issue? Its the jc penny one by cooks.

    I'm not swearing it will work, but you could try smothering it in baking soda; it really does absorb strong odors.

    (I've used it on carpet to absorb rotten mouse carcass and filled extremely rank leather boots with it. It took care of both.)

    AHH first try washing it if you didnt buy it brand new
