What is the meaning of my former date's response?

One year ago, I was dating this guy who I found to be a bit self centered. I finally decided to stop dating him and also told him off by text telling him how self centered he was. He said he was disappointed by my text. I then apologised to him and he said it was ok. Since then we haven't talked.

Over Thanksgiving a year later I sent him a text to wish him Happy Holidays. He text back to ask me what I was up to. Again nothing happened.

New Year's Eve I text him to wish him well. He text back the same to me as well.

What I want to know is if he still is interested in me if he is bothering to text back after what happened.

Or is he trying to keep his options open Or is he wondering why I am texting him out of the blue a year later?
