Head unit install= broken speedometer?

Alright guys,

I recently installed a new Pioneer head unit in my 1999 ford explorer. Almost 20 minutes after I was done installing it, I was driving around, and my speedometer no longer works.

I don't even want to drive the thing until I can get the speedometer working, because it doesn't register any miles on the odometer either. Has anyone experienced something like this before? What should I do to fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rob

if you abs light is on also it could be the rear abs speed sensor. first check fuse 11 and 25. 11 is for the volt gauge, other gauges, and the speedo. 25 looks like it is only for the speedo. i have replaced allot of rear speed sensors just for this problem. the sensor is on top of the rear dif housing.

Your Explorer may have an electronic speedometer instead of the regular old mechanical units. If so, and you did not go under the car and touch anything around the transmission, or run wires under a shifter plate (If the shifter is in the floor) then you may have accidentally tied into a wire that supplies current, sends or receives a signal from the speedometer to the readout and caused it to stop working.

You might first check your fuses to see if one of them is blown. If so, there is a reason, including even tying into a circuit that is overloaded with the radio. Check your fuses first. Then turn the radio off and drive the Explorer. If the speedo works, you'll know you did one of the above mentioned no-nos. If it stops and the same fuse blows again, disconnect the negative battery cable and remove any hot wires from/leading to the radio. Hook the cable back up. Bet the speedo works fine then!

the manufacturing facility radio would not have rca outputs. i can't remeber the place the fatory is stable now. interior the older durangos it replaced into interior the passenger kick panel. you are going to pass with to connect with the line outconverter after the amp in between the amp and the audio device. as for the distant cord your mothers vehicle makes use of what chrysler calls a CAN-bus records device. it makes use of a working laptop or computing device device to coach the radio on and rancid particularly than a cord that reads 12v with the biggest on and 0 with the biggest off. to discover an adjunct means, you could pull the sprint off and between the cigarette lights are accent, i think of the only on the left. you will pick a multi meter to attempt which cord is means and which one is floor. if i endure in techniques perfect its the only which's no longer black, yet attempt it to make confident. the manufacturing facility amp ought to the two be interior the passenger kick panel or at the back of the rear drivers area quarter panel. LR Speaker +/- dk. grn/dk. blue - dk. grn/org RR Speaker +/- gray/dk. blue - gray/orange those is probably no longer the comparable cord colorings for the infinty device, i can purely look them up for the effort-free device. this isn't an exceedingly placing as much as do it the appropriate way. it extremely is advisable to have a superb save do it for you in case you're uncertain of something.
