What color to paint my kitchen?

My north-facing kitchen has ivory stained maple cabinets/neutral counter top (also ivory) and med oak floors. I have a large bay window that takes up the center of the room and little wall space to paint Since my kitchen faces north and even with the window, I seem to want a warm color. My family room is adjacent and I'd like to paint it the same color.

Exact paint color names/numbers are much appreciated. I.e. Benjamin Moore , Behr, etc.

Since your room faces north, a warm color makes sense, & with light neutrals, you need some contrast with the ivory so that the wall color won't look washed out. You don't say what your furniture colors are in your family room - I'm assuming neutral.

I love to use Sherwin Williams Fundamentally Neutral pallette. Their Duration Home line is a very durable & scrubbable latex with low VOC's, so the days of using oil-based paint to be durable is GONE. You can use matte or eggshell, but nothing shinier than that please. Keep your trim crisp white.

My favorite warm colors in the pallette are: 6128 Blonde, 7721 Crescent Cream, 7680 Lanyard, 7717 Ligonier Tan. You can check them out on their Color Visualizer tool on their website...you can even upload pics of your own room.

Well dark colors are back in style, but depending on the size of your rooms a dark color would make them appear smaller. I like the green colors as they are a very calming color. The brand of paint? Well I used to like Glidden Paints. Their " Hint of Color " paint chips have some nice colors. I used to manage the paint dept for years. I have tried Glidden, Beher, and quite a few others. The best I have tried and like very much is, Olympic Paint. Goes on just like a oil base without any brush marks. It is a water-base paint though and cleans up with soap and water instead of paint thinner. Now if you ask a Professional painter, they will tell you to use a oil base paint in the kitchen because it is more durable (that would be my Dad) but if it was me,I wouldn't.

The loudest colors on the color wheel have softer versions that can be used to decorate the walls of your room. Also, orange is a loud color but it can be softened down to considerable degrees to create a color like melon that has a lively expression. Likewise, red is a loud color, but the red color palette has softer versions like cinnamon or earthy ruby red.
