Does Lg Chocolate touch on verizon still require a data package?

Hello :)

So i have talked with like 5 people about this, and continue to get differing results....

I have a Lg Chocolate Touch that i am trying to sell to my friend. I have always had a data package, but she can't afford one.

Can anyone tell me if you have to have the $10 data package still? Because i know that verizon went through and changed much of the requirements for their data plans. Thanks

Emm

Update:

and PLEASE don't tell me to call customer service, that is where i continue to get differing ideas....

Update 2:

Yes, i realize that, but 2 or 3 of the customer service people said that was not true? I'm confused and really tired of playing this game....

No that phone does not require a data package anymore. Yes, it used to, but Verizon has since changed their phone categories. All phones are now either feature phones (no data required) or smartphones (data required). Since the Choc Touch isn't a smartphone, it's a feature phone. See for yourself- it's listed on their website under Feature Phones

No one is going to be able to give you a straight answer on this. Yes, Verizon changed the rules on 3g multimedia phones but they also dropped the Chocolate Touch. That means there's nothing on the website to tell you whether a data plan is required. However, the Chocolate Touch is a lot like the enV Touch and the enV Touch still requires the $10/month data plan. Further complicating the problem is the fact that the folks on the phones over at Verizon Customer Service are morons.

The only way you're going to find out for sure is for her to try to activate the phone to her account. If a data plan is required, she will have to add one during the activation process and, if this comes up, she can just terminate the activation and not buy the phone.

Yes it does. Verizon changed all their plans to where if you have a certain phone you have to get that data package with it. You can't take them off.

Yes, it does. It says so right on the Verizon website.
