Passport dilemma: Overstayed visa and need to renew passport?

I have very slightly overstayed my visa in the Schengen zone and my US passport expires in March. My thoughts were originally to go to Morocco and apply for a new passport, but after doing some research I found that one must have a passport that is valid for 6 months to enter. Mine, obviously, does not fulfill this requirement. If I apply for a new passport in Europe, I fear that my overstay will be discovered and I will be forced to either leave Europe for the US or leave the schengen zone and duck into England or Eastern Europe (which would be preferable to returning to the States). Any experience with such a situation (be it how throughly passports are inspected at the ferry terminal in Tangier, or having been in such a situation) or insight would be lovely.

Your snide comments and judgements are not required, just some honest advice please.

You get no pity from me. The American embassy doesn't care about your overstay that's not their problem. You can get a new passport but it will take about 2 weeks. As for your overstay that has to do with the country your in, hope they deport you.

Getting a new passport is a transaction between you and the US Consulate. No one in EU need know you've got passport. That's the easy part.

The trickier part is being an overstay. With the tighter security controls today, it's quite likely someone will notice you're an overstay, with or without a new passport.

I don't know your particulars, but I'd try to get back to the USA and apply for a subsequent Schengen visa. If you are confident you can get a subsequent Schengen visa in England, that might be an acceptable option.

Either way, don't let yourself get deported to the USA. Your American passport will help only so far.

    Take care!

Make your query extra designated. You're from NZ with a NZ passport. A renewed passport never has any entry stamp in it from issuing nation (NZ). You need to come back to Australia on a NZ passport ? You over-stayed your traveler visa for Australia even as travelling on a NZ passport to Australia ? Hope which you can make clear these aspects earlier than any one can help your query.
