What are some characteristics of Generation Z?

It's basically an extension of Generation Y (the Millenials). People today listen to the same kind of music and dress the same way people did in 1999.

I would say that Generation Z is nicer than Generation Y, which is a good thing. Music for Generation Y was more hardcore and violent than now. People like pop music now, whereas it was hated 10 years ago. People love Britney Spears and Michael Jackson now. They hated them 10 years ago. They're much more environmental and open-minded.

Generation Z are not that big into gaming the way Generation Y was. Most Generation Z'ers prefer to hang out more. Also, they have social networking and this makes people be much more understanding. Barack Obama being President is also a great example. People are growing in a more multicultural environment in America. Also, the "Great Recession" is a part of Generation Z. It's changed everything, from fuel-efficient cars to more efficient everything. People are more money-conscious than before.

Generation Z is a generation that has access to so much information through wikipedia and google. It's amazing, actually. The only thing is, that we're reaching an age where there's so much information that it's impossible to do everything. It wasn't like that 15 or 20 years ago. Information seemed more manageable then. You would think that having access to everything would make people more learned, but in some ways, it can also be distracting. It can make people lazy. At the same time, there's so much potential for new ideas to come about, so I am hopeful that we will continue to evolve and create new cultures.

All in all, I think it's a good generation and I do think they're headed in the right direction. Sometimes I think America's Generation Z is too nice and perhaps that makes things more vulnerable when they face a world that is not so nice.
