My mom got pulled over because the driver/passenger side windows were too tinted?
He said that he'll let her off with a warning, but that she has to get the windows changed. I've seen dozens of cars like ours, and they all have the same dark windows. It's a family van, she got it at Hyundai 6 years ago. We're not spies or anything.
We live in Minnesota, is this a law? Also, the officer pulled her over at night so I'm pretty sure he's just being stupid.

A comparison of state laws are at the link below.
It looks like in Minnesota you can have 50% VLT tint on the front side windows. That is super duper light tint. 70% VLT is regular glass with no tint at all.
In my state the officer has the discretion to do one of the following:
- issue a verbal or written warning
- issue a $15 fix it ticket
- issue a $70 tint ticket
- impound the car, release the car after the tint is removed.
Did they thank him for just giving the warning?
I found people tend to get more angry with warnings - so I quit giving them.
Take it back to the dealer and have them make it legal for you!!!
Hope this helps

You can have 50% window tint in Minnesota. As for the cop being stupid, no. Did your mom buy the car in Minnesota because if she did, I can guarantee it wouldn't have window tint that was illegal. The drivers side window can have no tint, by the way. I live in Minnesota. And if she just got a warning, why is it a big deal?

Yeah you will get in worry for that. My mom has limo tint on all her vehicles yet her pores and skin is particularly delicate to the solar, her dermatologist even wrote her a notice to coach to the police officers if she ever gets pulled over. So in case you have a clinical notice you're advantageous.

Every state has a legal limit for the amount of tint that you can have on car windows.
She's lucky. The fine for a citation would be a lot, and she'd *still* have to get the windows stripped.

Yes, every state has their own laws about tinting.
And to your "I'm pretty sure he's just being stupid" line, you sound like a 6 year old. Grow up.

He's not 'being stupid'... he's enforcing State Law.
Why are you whining about it? He gave your mother a break and didn't issue a citation.

In florida it would cost her $104.00 every time she is stopped so remove the tint the tickets are not worth it
