Do I need my old Verizon Phone to transfer number to a new one?

My phone broke (completely destroyed) and My dad got me a used verizon blackberry Storm from work and i was wondering if to transfer my number i need my old phone too. I know it's somewhere in my room, but If i don't need it i won't spend time looking for it.

You don't need it to activate the new blackberry. You would only need it if you were wanting to transfer contacts to the new phone from the old one but it has to power on. So if your old phones demolished then theres no need to look for it.

FYI: that blackberry is going to require a data plan of some kind. either 15 dollars for 150mb/month or 30 dollars for unlimited. Just a heads up!

    Hope this helps.
