problem with sigma bc1609 wired?
I just bought a sigma bc1609 wired cycling computer and have noticed a possible fault.
after I inserted the battery it simply wont automatically turn off. I haven't yet attached it to the bracket and it is still sitting on my desk with the power on.
I thought that these computers were meant to automatically shut off when not in use to conserve the battery.
I'm reluctant to install it as that would require me to open the speed sensor/bracket mount which may complicate a return.
does any one else use this same computer?

I wear a digital watch. It never shuts down, and shouldn't. It is the same thing with a cycling computer. Wired units in particular draw very little current, batteries can last for years. There is nothing to worry about, your computer is acting the way it was designed to do

I have several sigma's what happens after about 5 min. is it goes into "function" shut down. What that means is speed, cad. etc. stops working till a pulse from a sensor is detected or you press a button. When the computer is off the clock time stays on, in this sleep type mode the display uses very little power, but even under normal use battery life is 18 months to 2 yrs. My trainer bike has a Sigma 1606L and with an average use of 14~20 hrs a week of use battery life is well over a year.

If by "power off" you mean the clock & everything shut down - wrong. Most bike computers today will always show the clock - 24/7. The other options such as speed, trip time, average speed, etc. will shut down - but the clock is always on.
