I have viral pink eye and doctor says I can go to work? Is this a good idea?
I caught viral pink eye from my brother. My brother got it from a really bad cold that turned into pink eye. Since it's viral it isn't treatable with antibiotics and is contagious as long as I have symptoms. I work at Jack in the Box on weekends and a 3rd-5th grade elementary school during the week, so I went to the doctor to see if I had to take time off work (I can't take time off work without a doctor's note). The doctor refused to write a note and said it was perfectly fine for me to work as long as I wash my hands a lot and don't touch my face or let others touch my face. Should I do as the doctor says and go to work even though I have pink eye? I live in WA and as far as I can tell their aren't any laws saying I can't work...

Technically, the "pink eye" you have is the actual cold virus which has settled in the conjunctiva of your eye... Since this is the case, it's like going to work with a common cold. :0) The doctor's advice is 100% correct. If you have to touch your eye or face, be sure to wash your hands with antibacterial soap. If anyone asks if you have pink eye, it wouldn't be wrong from you to assure them by telling them you have a "cold that has settled in your eye" and "the doctor assured you that it was safe for you to come to work" .... If you had traditional cold symptoms (coughing, sneezing, etc.) you would be careful to not spread your germs; just treat this the same. Best wishes! Hope you and your brother are feeling all better soon! :0)
