  • Health Insurance question....what do I do?

I was recently denied medical coverage by medicaid because I make $200 too much. I had low income insurance called Basic Health from Washington state. I got a new job last july, so I make more money than in previous years. I'm 26 yrs old, single, and was treated for thyroid cancer a year ago. I have 20 days to decide what new medical insurance to get. My choices are to get medical insurance with my job (First Choice Network PPO) or to apply for the Washington Health Program. I don't know anything about insurance so I have no idea which would be better or if I would even qualify for Washington Health program. My only other choice is to cut back my hours at work and reapply for basic health in six months. What should I do? My premium for my work insurance would be $120 a month with a $600 deductible and $25 copay for appointments. Basic health was $66 a month and $10 copay. I have no idea what Washington Health program would be. Is it better to have a government back individual health plan or a health plan through my job?

  • My family opened presents without me? How do I stop being upset about it?

I work the grave shift this week. Before work yesterday, my mom asked me if I would open presents with them. I said yes and asked her when she thought everyone would be awake, as I might sleep a little bit before getting up again. I get home around 7:30 am after a grave shift. She said that my siblings would probably sleep in until 10, so I said I would probably come home and sleep a little then wake up to open presents. So I work my grave shift, then drive through a storm to get home. I almost got into a car accident on the way home due to the bad weather, so I was in a bad mood. When I got home, I asked my mom if I should stay awake or sleep a little and she said I should sleep since no one would get up yet. So I went to sleep around 8am and woke up around 10:30am. When I woke up, I discovered that my family had already opened their presents. I got really angry and upset about this and lost my temper with my mom. I feel bad about loosing my temper. I was really upset however. I actually cried about not getting to see everyone open their presents which is kind of over reacting since I'm 26 and should be too old to get so upset. And I usually don't lose my temper or get upset very easily. Anyway, I went back to sleep then woke up again at 4pm to eat x-mas dinner then sleep some more for my grave shift tonight. My parents are mad at me for getting angry and upset. My mom says she thought I wouldn't wake up until 5pm and told everyone to open the presents. She probably thought she was being nice by letting me sleep. How do I get over being upset?

  • Job search after thyroid cancer and medical problems?

I'm a 25 year old female. In the past year I've had a lot of medical problems that have made me an unreliable worker. It all started when I was diagnosed with adult onset asthma. It took a while to diagnose because we thought it was bronchitis at first. Later I ended up have medical problems from carbon monoxide poisoning. Then I was discovered to have thyroid cancer. I had surgery to have my thyroid removed and I had radioactive iodine treatment. I still have some cancer left in some lymph nodes but my doctors are taking a wait and see approach since thyroid cancer is slow growing with very low mortality.

Long story short, I used to work as a substitute para professional in schools. I had to stop substituting because my doctor appoints made me an unreliable substitute plus I needed time to recover. I also worked part time at a fast food place. We got a new manager who (among many other problems) decided to force me to quit because he didn't want to deal with someone who has to go to the doctor all the time. Other problems with this manager were that he made racist, sexist, and homophobic comments. Also, he was not properly trained in how to be a manager and didn't know how to do his job. He was sort of thrown hap hazardously into the position. Anyway, once he realized my health problems and thyroid cancer diagnosis will be a long standing problem, he dramatically cut my hours to force me to leave. I was going to just give my two weeks notice and quit, but was treated so badly that I quit without notice.

How should I go about getting a new job? My surgery scar is on my neck in a very visible place (above neck line of shirts) so I would probably have to explain it some how. I have been covering it with a skin colored silicon patch to try to make it less noticeable but even complete strangers ask me about it. How do I explain the scar? Cancer tends to make employers not want to hire a person after all..... Also, since I still have some cancer in my body I might have to have more treatment in the future. I do I handle that?

Also, even though I would get a bad review from the manager I walked away from, the manager before him would give me a great review, so I plan on using him as a reference instead.

I am also trying to go back to school to be a science teacher so I need a job that is flexible with a class schedule.

Long story short, how do you get a job when you have a visible cancer scar and had to leave you last job because of complicating situations due to health problems? I really need money. I'm not married and support myself. I need money for medical bills.

  • Prednisone withdraw? Is this normal or am I going crazy?

was recently diagnosed with adult onset asthma and the inhalers weren't controlling it completely so I was given an injection of a steriod. I was then told to take prednisone for a few days. I had to take 20mg 3 times a day for two days, then 2 times a day for two days then once a day for two days then I was done with the pills. When I was on the pills I had terrible side effects Including:

    -Insomnia

    -extreme mental confusion, foggy brain

    -very hungry

-extreme anxiety, paranoia, and panic attacks

    -back pain

After the last dose of prednisone, I had more side effects like:

    -migraines

    -indigestion, diarrhea, nausea

    -back and knee pain

-hives all over my face, and chest,

    - a return of eczema, and depression.

After a few days most of these went away, but now feel lightheaded, chills (no fever), intestinal pain, diarrhea (three times today), and nausea. And I keep crying.

Is this withdraw from prednisone even though it's been days since the last dose? I told my doctor about all these symptoms as they occurred, but since I was on a short dose they have basically said there is nothing they can do. Is this normal? When will the effects from the drugs go away? I've also had a pain in my right side where my ribs are and was told it was probably bruised ribs from coughing so much earlier. I feel that these problems and being brushed off by doctors who have basically told me to grin and bare it. Is there anything I can do to help myself?

  • How to handle side effects of prednisone steroid for asthma?

I was recently diagnosed with asthma and am on an inhaler called qvar with a rescue inhaler called abuterol. These still didn't help my symptoms enough so I was put on a week long course of a steroid called prednisone. It's giving me a lot of side effects including inability to sleep (haven't slept fully since thur.), anxiety and panic, making me feel mentally confused, lose track of time, be extremely hungry, and causing an irregular period, in addition to just making me feel crappy. All this and I've only been on it for four days. I had a huge panic attack today and mistook it for an asthma attack because I've never had a panic attack like this before. I only know it was a panic attack because I went to the doctor and said that's what it was and that it was a side effect along with the other things I listed. How can I handle these side effects? I ended up missing work today because of it. I even took codeine and it did nothing to get me to sleep.

  • Diablo 2 keeps not responding on windows 7?

I upgraded my Toshiba laptop from vista to windows 7 a few months ago. Later on I bought diablo 2 because I wanted to play it and I didn't own the game any more. I could never get the cd's to work properly so I ended up getting the digital download from Blizzard. Now the only way I can play Diablo 2 is by having the game in xp service pack 2 mode and by having it in window mode, but this only works some of the time. Playing in full screen doesn't work AT ALL. The rest of the time the program doesn't respond so then I have to restart my computer several times until it works. There has to be a better way.....any suggestions?

PS I have 32 bit computer if that makes a difference.

  • I have viral pink eye and doctor says I can go to work? Is this a good idea?

I caught viral pink eye from my brother. My brother got it from a really bad cold that turned into pink eye. Since it's viral it isn't treatable with antibiotics and is contagious as long as I have symptoms. I work at Jack in the Box on weekends and a 3rd-5th grade elementary school during the week, so I went to the doctor to see if I had to take time off work (I can't take time off work without a doctor's note). The doctor refused to write a note and said it was perfectly fine for me to work as long as I wash my hands a lot and don't touch my face or let others touch my face. Should I do as the doctor says and go to work even though I have pink eye? I live in WA and as far as I can tell their aren't any laws saying I can't work...

  • Does e-harmony work? I keep getting very similar types of men....?

I signed up to e-harmony just for fun and filled out the questionnaire. Almost all of my matches are in the military. This caused me to freak out because I absolutely did not want to date a military guy. No offense to military guys, but everyone in my family is military or marries military and I wanted to break the mold. I grew up as an army kid and don't want that lifestyle any more. All the moving and dealing with wars is too stressful. However, all my matches are military. Do you think it's because I live near a military base (it's 30 min drive away) or do you think it's actually because my personality and values matches those in the military since I grew up in a military family? Should I give these guys a chance, or give up on e-harmony? I have a BA in physics and would like to get a masters to become a science teacher. Most of my matches aren't college educated. Most of the men I date generally aren't college educated, but I was hoping to meet some who were. I live in a town with three colleges (and a 4th 30 mins. away) so that surprised me that I wasn't matched up with any. What do you think? Is e-harmony accurate? Should I give these guys a chance?

  • Email etiquette: how to respond to a rude email?

I got an email about a month ago that I should have responded to, but didn't because I was unexpectedly busy this month, and I didn't want to answer until I could devote time to a thoughtful response. I should have sent an email to let the respondent know I had recieved the email and would respond later, but I didn't. The person who sent the email sent me an email today saying that I was ungrateful and selfish for not replying and apologized for wasting their valuable time talking to me. How should I respond to this email? I know it was wrong of me to not reply, but I don't think this person should have been so rude. How should I handle this situation?

  • Hired at Jack-in-the Box, when do I start working?

I had a job interview at Jack-in-the-Box on Thru. and ended up getting hired. They gave me a drug test form to do (which I did) and told me to get a food handlers card, and that I would get a background check. I don't recall being told when I would start working though. Should I contact Jack-in-the-Box or wait for them to call me and tell me to come in? I'm not really sure what's going on.

  • Applied to AmeriCorps Vista program, should I contact the program manager?

I just applied to an AmeriCorps Vista position that I really really really want to do. I just sent in my application. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to contact the program manager to the program so that they can get to know me and look out for my application. Do you think that is a good idea? I just graduated from college this may.

  • Am I the only one who hates the new Star Trek film?

It has a 96% fresh rating on Rotten Tomato and all the news paper critics loved it. Why? The script was horrible. It was contrived and stupid. They should have explained the Nero and Spoke back story better, and should have explained why Spoke couldn't save Romulus. The special effects and CGI were so unrealistic it made Superman Returns look real. Some action sequences had absolutely nothing to do with the plot line and were added for no other reason than to grate eyeballs or induce seizures or show how badass the main characters are. Kirk is a badass, yes we get it. Can we move on please? The scenes of Kirk's childhood and Kirk on the Icy planet should have been cut. They had no place in the movie and no connection to plot. And Spoke and Uhura? WTF? And that fight scene on the drill bit? Give me a break. Star Wars light saber fight scenes were more realistic. The actors were well chosen, but the script and CGI action effects were crap, over the top, and didn't need to be there. What ever happened to Character development? Why do people like this movie?

  • Teach for America: A good idea?

I will graduate soon with the following: Degree in astronomy-physics and math minor.

    Astronomy: 3.5 GPA

    Physics: 2.6 GPA

    Math: 2.4 GPA

    Cumulative: 3.02 GPA

Do you think I would be a good candidate for teach for America? Some former students at my school recommended me because of my involvement in diversity issues. Also, if you did this, what did you think of the program? Is it worth doing? I have decided to take time off before going to Grad. school and am wondering if this is a good way to do so. I also want to use the time to decide what it is I want to do in the future.

  • What should I do after graduation?

I will be graduating this spring with a degree in astronomy-physics and a minor in math from a private liberal arts college. Here are my stats:

    Cumulative GPA: 3.024

    Astronomy GPA: 3.582

    Physics GPA: 2.677

    Math Minor GPA: 2.433

I also did a summer REU at WSU in astronomy, so I do have some research experience. The reason my grades are so low has to do with a lot of personal problems such as having four knee surgeries, having two of my friends die, and working three jobs in addition to being a full time student among other things. Although I truly love astronomy, I don't think getting into an astronomy grad. program is possible at this point, considering I bombed the general and physics GRE (the reason for this is a long story...the last two years have really sucked for me.) I have $40,000 of student loans already, and I don't have the money to create an alternative transcript to get into an astronomy program, but I do need a job to pay off these loans. I would like to get a job with industry or a government job. What are some programs for master's degrees I could get into or jobs I could get without GRE scores being required? I have some (aka very little but some) experience with C++, IDL, and FORTRAN, I know how to use Linux fairly well (including how to use commands in terminal windows) and am an expert at excel.

  • If I don't buy oil heat, will the pipes freeze?

Me and my housemates are debating whether or not to fill up our oil tank for heating or getting personal heaters. We live in an area where the winter temperatures are usually below freezing (30-20 degrees, lower maybe one week out of the whole winter). We have a huge basement where no one lives, so it might be a waste to heat it, except to prevent the pipes from freezing. Our house is also very huge (all six of us have our own rooms) and it might be nice to save money on having to heat such a huge house. If we insulate the pipes and just use personal heaters, do you think the pipes will freeze? If we do buy oil and keep the temperature at 55, will that prevent the pipes from freezing?

  • What are my job prospects?

I am an astronomy-physics major with a 3.6 GPA in astronomy and a 2.8GPA in physics. I have some experience with programing and various operating systems, though I'm not that good at it. I also have some research experience. I am burned out from school, and I would really like to work for a few years after I graduate. What do you think are my chances of getting a job with the bad economy? I looked into getting a state gov. job, but they aren't hiring because of the economy. I currently work part time at a restaurant. When I graduate, I will need to make at least $20,000 a yr if I'm living at home or +$35,000 is I live alone in order to pay for student loans. Do you think I can get a full time job before my 6 months of not paying student loans expires?

  • Housemate problems...?

My housemates don't respect my stuff. They have scratched my pans, left dirty pans by the sink for days if not a week, and broken some things, as well as stripping the wire to my vacuum. I've asked them nicy to respect my things, but they aren't listening, so finally I took all my items out of the kitchen. Unfortunately for them, 80% of all the kitchen stuff is mine (all the pans, Tupperware, utilizes...) I would like for my stuff to stay in the kitchen and for it to be respected, but how do I get them to listen and not ruin my stuff?
