How to handle side effects of prednisone steroid for asthma?

I was recently diagnosed with asthma and am on an inhaler called qvar with a rescue inhaler called abuterol. These still didn't help my symptoms enough so I was put on a week long course of a steroid called prednisone. It's giving me a lot of side effects including inability to sleep (haven't slept fully since thur.), anxiety and panic, making me feel mentally confused, lose track of time, be extremely hungry, and causing an irregular period, in addition to just making me feel crappy. All this and I've only been on it for four days. I had a huge panic attack today and mistook it for an asthma attack because I've never had a panic attack like this before. I only know it was a panic attack because I went to the doctor and said that's what it was and that it was a side effect along with the other things I listed. How can I handle these side effects? I ended up missing work today because of it. I even took codeine and it did nothing to get me to sleep.

I took prednisone one time when I had mono and it's no fun for sure. Additionally I have asthma and I can relate to the panic attacks. Its no fun but if your doctor put you on prednisone its probably needed. I felt like I was kind of losing my mind while on it haha, the losing track of time and mood swings. However its a miracle drug where if you have something that needs to be knocked out, like a lung infection possibly, its your best bet. The albuterol should be used regularly anyway if you feel the wheezing and trouble breathing returning. I don't exactly remember how long prednisone effects lasted but if it was prescribed to you I recommend weathering the storm and just getting through the tough side affects where you can just treat the asthma with the inhaler on an as-needed basis.

My brother is an asthmatic and after ten years his asthma has shown no sign of improving. He has been to several doctors but they didn't help much.

If you want a proven, all-natural way to cure your asthma, without having to pay for useless medications with harmful side-effects, then this is the most important page you'll ever read.

I was on prednisone for a while for a blood disorder, I put on weight, developed a "swollen" looking face, and got severly depressed. They effect people differently, I know of several cases where they have caused stunted growth, osteoperosis, and extreme mood swings. I have attached a link to a website listing the side effects.
