What are my job prospects?

I am an astronomy-physics major with a 3.6 GPA in astronomy and a 2.8GPA in physics. I have some experience with programing and various operating systems, though I'm not that good at it. I also have some research experience. I am burned out from school, and I would really like to work for a few years after I graduate. What do you think are my chances of getting a job with the bad economy? I looked into getting a state gov. job, but they aren't hiring because of the economy. I currently work part time at a restaurant. When I graduate, I will need to make at least $20,000 a yr if I'm living at home or +$35,000 is I live alone in order to pay for student loans. Do you think I can get a full time job before my 6 months of not paying student loans expires?

You should have very good job prospects because of the nature of your studies. You may need to be flexible in where you locate but you will be well-paid and have good possibilities for advancement.

Try to find a summer internship if you are not a senior. Attend job fairs at your college. Speak with your favorite professor, who may have some contacts.

The people who will be hurt most in this economy are those who lack a good education and have no special skills.
