it's the same, origin and receiving is the same thing. example:

    origin: i am FROM ______

    soy DE _______

    and example2:

    receiving a gift:

    to ____ FROM____

    para_____ DE_______

they are pronounced and written the same way. hope this helps!

You can say either "de" Although it could be confusing since "de" also means property.

Recibí el regalo de mi hermano

    Can mean:

I received the gift from my brother

    I received my brother's gift.

So if you want to be more specific you can say "de parte de" which means only "from".

Recibí un regalo de parte de mi hermano.

¿De parte de quién recibiste un regalo?

I received a gift from my brother

From whom did you receive a gift?
