I just need a good movie idea. When they are winding down for the night, what movie would be good for 10 and 11 year olds?

Also, any particular activities that would be great? They pretty much want to just hang out, no games and prizes and stuff, but some kind of "together" activity or craft or something?

I don't know what the problem is because I have all the latest updates of Adobe/Flash/whatever else. If I click a video article on CNN, I can watch the ad that comes before the news story (so helpful, right?!) and then the news report comes on and it only has sound. Any ideas?

My daughter is trying to remember a movie that we watched recently. Her description isn't ringing bells for a title for me. Can you help?

Here are the points she remembers:

Female lead was talking to a stranger (maybe) in a restaurant telling her story.

Female lead gets shot in the arm and takes restaurant stranger to use his car.

Tells restaurant stranger to tend to her wound.

Goes to family member's house.

Hides in air vent.

Female lead has has shootout with bad guys.

I feel like most mornings are the same thing. They take way too long showering, eating, dressing. No one has time to make their bed or pick up their clothes because they seem to dawdle every second away. And if they get up 5 or 10 minutes late, they are really slow because they don't know how to hurry and take that extra time off of their routine.

I don't even want to insist on made beds right now, I'd settle for leaving the house on time without having to yell.

I know yelling isn't working. It's my own problem that I need to reel in. I don't normally yell, but when there's 10 minutes to go and my daughter is still in the shower, my own adrenaline is telling me to hurry, but obviously it doesn't transfer. ("Get out of the shower, we have to leave in 15 minutes" 5 minutes later "why are you still in the shower" "i don't care if you haven't finished, get out" )

I know yelling isn't the answer (through basic knowledge, and unfortunately, experience). Telling them what time it is doesn't work. Do I just have to take things away, ie ipod, phone, privileges? The worst ones are my middle school and high schooler. Surpringly enough, my elementary school child is the one who just gets ready and is done with it.

Ideas?

I've decided to get my preschool son's teacher a $20 gift card to Barnes and Noble. I think I should get the same thing for my daughter's teacher. She is in second grade, but here's my dilemma. She started the year with just one teacher. After a few weeks, the teachers decided to switch up and she has another teacher for part of the day (I don't know if it's a full half of the day). This second teacher is also her teacher for Gifted and Talented work.

So, the question is, should I just get both of the 2nd grade teachers a gift card, or just her main teacher? I'm leaning toward both, but I wonder if everyone is going with just the original teachers. Thoughts?

I don't like Walmart and don't EVER shop there for anything. Now my daughter has been looking for bedding, and she likes this one there. Should I give in and buy it, or keep looking?

Our schools this year extended their hours. Our children are in school 8am-4pm, which I think is crazy. My second grader actually gets out at 3:45, but the effect is the same. 8 hours at school with only a 30 minute lunch break. They do have PE every day, but no recess.

How can they even justify that? My daughter is a good student and is in the gifted and talented program, but she is bored out of her mind and I find that I'm having to talk her into going to class every day.

I want to raise concerns with the school board at the next meeting, but I'd like more info from other schools and communities.

How long is your school? grade school, middle school, high school? recess?

Personally I feel like they are making a big mistake in basically mandating tax-funded babysitting service.

This is the first year our city has participated, so the details are sketchy to me. If you sign up for a team, are you signing up to stay all night? Do you (or someone else on your team) need to be on the track all night and all day? And you just keep walking/running for 24 hours?
