Theists: How do you live happily with religion? And Atheists: How do you live happily with theists?

Yea, I live happily with religious folks. Its just the Internet, where everyone feels the need to shut down others comments.

I don't live happily with "religion." I live happily with my faith in the Lord and particularly when my actions follow my faith. This "religion" thing is the source of all the conflict.

Your question for atheists--why don't "theists" get to answer how we feel about living with atheists? Inequitable question.

You try loving everyone when they're rude jerks. Loving everyone doesn't mean we happily live with them.

I don't understand your question to theists. Please don't equate all theists with those who consider themselves Christian or even Islamic. I happen to be Unitarian Universalist, and we have atheist members in our congregation. We all get along just fine since no one tries to push doctrine of any kind down anyone's throat. I have heard great, respectful, intellectual and deep-thought debates between theists and atheists at that congregation, and remember that a theist is anyone who believes in any sort of Divine Power; so that includes all the world's religions except, perhaps, Buddhism, but even then, I think they count since they see the Universe as divine...

Atheists, if you have a Unitarian or UU congregation near you, I respectfully suggest you check it out sometime. You might find theists there you could get along with.

As a theist, I take great strides to be gentle when dealing with religions. I do believe in one God, but I'm not sure that God would limit himself to Christianity so exclusively as many religious Christians assume. However, I believe that devoting one's life to any cause is commendable.

On the topics of atheist, I regard their beliefs as valid, though I don't agree. I expect the same of atheists as I do of myself and of other Christians: acceptance. I find that more often than not, atheist, like devout Christians, pronounce their views as the only RIGHT way to believe.

I forget what major figure said this in regards to atheism, "When I die, if I'm wrong [about God], so be it--I lived a good life. But if I die and you're wrong [about God's existence], then I feel sorry for you."

I don't live happily with theists, I don't know any.

Edit: I live in Oz. None of my friends, colleagues or family are theists.

I have been with my Catholic wife for almost 20 years now. Issues regarding religion are at the very bottom of what we both consider important in our relationship.

I don't live happily with religion i think it is vile, barbaric and regressive and i argue against it at every opportunity. I especially dislike the indoctrination of children.
