Was auburn really the best team in college football?
We will never know the truth, i dont care how many sec fans respond to this. Auburn is great, so is tcu. both unbeaten. Yes auburn beat oregon, but tcu spanked wis. which by many people said could win it all in a playoff.. We need a playoff, no one will ever know if tcu could beat auburn, there is always doubt. BOTH are great. National title should be split instead of a bunch of coaches and sport writers voting.. BY the way i am not a fan of either school. I live in mich and root for mich st and wvu.

Well they were a bad team through out the year in the First half but they always came back Clemson Alabama Miss State they were down but never out of it so they proved they can come back on the road and at home and also scoring when it counts most. To me I think that makes them the best team in college football.

By going undefeated in the strongest conference in the nation, the SEC, I believe it is objective to say they were the best team. By coming from behind to win in almost half of those games, the passion and will to win were amply demonstrated.
I also agree, as do most fans, that we need a playoff. The excuses about time away from class, exams, etc. are ridiculous because the championship keeps getting pushed further back to make for even more bowl games (income for the fat cats running them).
The top 8 schools could play it off very easily, and the gate would not suffer, it would expand.
I lived in multiple Big 10 locations throughout my life, played football for a hall of fame coach, and have watched games in multiple big ten stadiums. Believe me when I tell you the quality is not only apparent in the SEC, it far exceeds that of the other conferences in depth. Having said that, not only was TCU again unfairly treated by ending undefeated with no crack at the title, but many schools have been over the years - such as the year USC was "awarded" a national title without playing a head-to-head with a 13-0 Auburn team that put multiple players into the first round of the NFL draft. The cornerbacks that Auburn had on the field that year would have had an opportunity to test Matt Leinert's arm better than any in the country. And fans deserved to see how much "high scoring offense" matters when it meets up with twin "shut-down" corners.

Even a playoff wouldn't tell us who the best team really is. Football games are too random for that. This season, South Dakota beat Minnesota, who beat Iowa, who beat Michigan State, who beat Wisconsin. South Dakota is not better than Iowa, Michigan State, or Wisconsin. They're probably not even better than Minnesota. Auburn is probably better than TCU, but even if that was true, TCU would still beat Auburn 30 or 40 percent of the time.
I'd rather reward Auburn for playing great teams and beating them than support a TCU team that went perfect against an average schedule.

Sure would have been nice to see a playoff, I truly think TCU and Ohio State could have held their own against Auburn, but this is the system we have so Congrats to Auburn.

14-0 in the SEC.... beat an Oregon team that was winning by an average of 49-18... Played their best with the unneeded controversy stirred up by Mississippi State swirling around.... Came back from a 24-0 deficit in Tuscaloosa... I would say YES.
I'm sorry, but there's no way TCU would have beaten Alabama in Tuscaloosa. It just wouldn't happen.

TCU spanked Wisconsin ????? Put down the bong dude
The system determined Oregon and Auburn both better than TCU by way of strength of schedule
What is there to argue about there - TCU's schedule was pathetic - END OF STORY

Yes, they proved it last night.
And 21-19 doesn't sound like they spanked Winsconsin, especially after Wisconsin failed the 2-pt conversion that represented the tie.

BCS says so.
Never heard TCU coach call for a playoff, did you? Take a guess why.

wow, when I saw the question, that is exactily what I was going to say. We need playoff with the top teams, otherwise we will never know.
