Why do some people say you Un-American if you think the U.S. Constitution has flaws?

"Happy for us that when we find our constitution defective and insufficient to secure the happiness of our people, we can assemble with all the coolness of philosophers and set it to rights, while every other nation on earth must have recourse to arms to amend or to restore their constitutions." --Thomas Jefferson to C. W. F. Dumas, 1787. ME 6:295, Papers 12:113

"I go further, and affirm that bills of rights, in the sense and to the extent in which they are contended for, are not only unnecessary in the proposed Constitution, but would even be dangerous. They would contain various exceptions to powers not granted; and on this very account, would afford a colorable pretext to claim more than were granted. For why declare that things shall not be done which there is no power to do?" Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 84, 1788

“I confess that there are several parts of this Constitution which I do not at present approve, but I am not sure I shall never approve them. For having lived long, I have experienced many instances of being obliged by better information, or fuller consideration, to change opinions even on important subjects, which I once thought right, but found to be otherwise.” ~Benjamin Franklin, 1787

Because some people seem to think that the Constitution is the WORD OF GOD written in stone, rather than a document that was meant to be flexible and to change with the times, even according to those who wrote it.

I am afraid your rant will be falling on deaf ears. The Obama supporters will hear nothing that is not praise for that man. I have already voted and the place for early voting was a Baptist Church whose congregation is primarily Black. The polling area was properly signed but there were church workers talking about how great it was that all these people were voting for Obama. As I was leaving I saw these same people outside pulling down the vote for McCain signs and replacing them with Obama signs. The feeling I got was that these people were trying to intimidate everyone into voting for Obama.. Well, they did not intimidate me. I voted for John McCain as well as for John Cronyn who is my senator. Hell, I don't usually but this time, in part because of the tactics used by the members of this church, I voted a straight ticket. All republican, all the way.

Flawed is perhaps not the best choice of words. The amendment process assures that changes have an orderly way of getting incorporated.

It took 13 years for that piece of paper to be agreed with. So what it is, is what it is.

In the 21st century, libs take issue with it because it doesn't side with their federalism of having a nanny state. THE REAL FLAW....is not the paper, it's that part of society who want it altered to fit their agenda. Sorry, it'll never happen.

I am not American but I can't see that the founding fathers would ever condone the hate coming out of Fred Phelps mouth.

Also to be able to spit on the graves soldiers is disgusting they deserve so much better and its up to you guys to give it to them.

That seems like major flaw to me.

The idea was that the Constitution wasn't perfect and could be changed as needed. That's why we have amendments.

Its unAmerican to discard the Constitution as we see with activist judges. Questioning it is not unAmerican.
