I am doing a research paper for my freshman english class. Our teacher gave us a list of topics but they were very broad. I picked eating disorders but now I need a more narrowed down topic. Does anyone have any ideas? Like what exactly should I write about on this broad topic can you please list at leasta few good ideas? PLEASE THANK YOU!

The psychological effects of eating disorders/The psychology of eating disorders.

    The causes of eating disorders.

Society's position in the development of eating disorders OR Society's response to eating disorders.

They make individuals with eating disorders feel shameful and sick when in fact society is hugely at fault for their development.

Why eating disorders are so taboo.

How a family acts when a member develops a disorder (mine just shook their heads and pretend they forgot, and other members have stopped talking to me completely, i was 16 when they found out)

Why people respond negatively to eating disorders but are concerned for cancer. you could compare the causes/long term affects - they are both diseases and both will kill. Why is one so much more important and more researched than the other? both are aggressive, one is psychological with physical issues/other is physically present in the body but can grow to be psychological (if you don't believe you will heal, you have a worse change of chemo working)

How an eating disorder is inheritable. I don't know a lot about it but it is true, like if a mother had an ed and then has a baby, that baby has a great chance of developing one even if the mother is recovering.

How media portrays unhealthy body images/causes, influences ed behaviour.

How Michelle Obama's campaign against childhood obesity can make a child think they are fat and cause an ed.

How the clothing industry can cause eds (clothes are being made smaller/make someone think they are gettting bigger, they are too big too fit in nice clothes, saying that people need to be smaller hence why they make the clothes smaller (although they might just want to save material :)

    Good Luck

How about the pressure a public person aka celebrity figures, models, etc, are pressured into an unrealistic wight. You can watch documentaries, interviews, and even mention celebrity ads (Jenny Craig and such). I always like to write on something that i have watched because get a better grasp about the topic. Dont forget to properly format your paper according to your teachers guide lines (MLA format, double spaced...) and dont plagiarize which means cite all the work that you look at AND that you use.

    Possible body paragraphs:

What are main causes for eating disorders and who is more at risk of obtaining them

Downfalls of eating disorders and how to overcome them

Maybe include: statistics about life expectancy, risk of obtaining other diseases, and impact on ones physical and mental health.

    Hope I Helped!
