Thoughts on this nickname for a boy?

My friend's older brother is Christopher, normally going by Chris. But, today, I heard his mom calling him Christo and she claims this is what she has always called him. It's just a term of endearment, but I actually thought it was a really cool nickname, especially as an alternative for the over-popular Chris.

What are your thoughts on Christo?

I'm not a fan. It's a little strange. I feel like it's pretentious... maybe something a character in a book would go by, but it's just silly on a real person. Plus, as dusky pointed out, it's pronounced the same as Cristo, which is Christ in several languages. I think it's fine as a term of endearment in the privacy of someone's own home, but to go by that in general with everyone... not so much.

I actually like Chris as a nickname, but my second choice would be Topher.

I think it's kinda cool, and better than Chris. I still prefer Topher over it as a nickname for Christopher

It's cool, it adds a fun exotic twist to a generic name like Christopher.

I think it's really weird, as it's practically like calling a kid "Christ" as a nickname ("Cristo" is the word for "Christ" in several languages, including Portuguese and Spanish).
