Maybe. AV programs aren't always 100% accurate, and most problems nowadays come from Spyware anyway.
Get MSE, which handles both, then run a full scan.

I am a bit concerned about blackgrumpycat answer as if they have two anti-virus programs on there computer and it has only picked up a/or one virus, I have only one anti-virus program installed & it has picked up on three possible virus intrusions with in a one week time frame since the 8th of January.
Including a TROJAN downloader, unclassified malware & a suspicious heuristics file & these all came from downloaded software, lets just say I caught these virus's before I installed the software (" I always as a golden rule scan evey download I do before even opening it or installing it as this is a good way of stopping a virus even before it can do any damage, compressed or zipped files I scan than rescan after unzipping them")!
As for the anti-virus I use it is called COMODO Anti-virus ( yes there is a free version ) I have been using it for about three years now and it has not let me down yet, as well as having plenty of settings & different security levels to play around with, as well as its virus database being updated roughly every 1 hour that you are connected to the internet, although I have found it to be a bit heavy on computer resources but I am running vista with only 1gb or ram, so if you have more than 1gb of ram installed it should not really bog down your system to much!
I recommend downloading it and giving a try to see how you go, Best of luck!

Even if your anti virus software is out of date, run a full virus scan anyway.
If you indeed do have a virus, your anti virus may still recognise it and be able to remove it.

Yes it should do. I use AVG free edition 2011 and Malwarebytes anti-malware. Both free and both have sorted a virus on my laptop.
