Sony DCR-HC38E Video recorder error C:31:23 Keeps coming up and cant use camera.?

Followed instructions in manual but no luck. Can anyone help ?

    This is a error that seems to keep on rearing its head every now and then, there are two options first get it serviced cost around $400, second this is going to sound a little hard to do but you do this at your own risk,

    step one take the battery out and leave it for a while then try it again, if it does not work the you have to join the smacking club Yep take the tape out close the carrier, turn the camera off and give it a couple or three hard taps, then try it again, here are a few links for you

    the way that they would fix it

    Generally a mechanical fault. The reel tables and/ or idler are suspect, as well as the mechanics surrounding them. It's also possible that the reel sensor themselves are at fault. Intermediate to major labour. you can do it yourself but you will need to take your camera apart!

    I would go for the smacking method first.

    first of all u could have a usb for shifting ur archives to ur laptop......then there's a cd presented by sony wich has a utility called-' image kit'....merely load it and it will instruction manual u quickly.........
