Why do people think OPI nail polish is the best?

Maybe someone can explain this to me. I have been heavily into the nail polish world for years, with a nauseatingly huge collection (with very few never worn). I'm just dumbfounded when I have friends LOVE the color I'm wearing and when they learn what it is, they're turned off because it's not OPI. I just don't get it!

OPI has been bought out by a major brand and will now be seen in more mainstream stores, and I'm sure you're already seeing it in Target, unlike brands such as China Glaze and Orly, which are commonly compared to OPI. I've also had some TERRIBLE quality OPI polishes. Gargantuan Green Grape, anyone? How about Italian Love Affair? Banana Bandana? Awful.

And OPI doesn't always have the best colors or quality. Wet N Wild hands down has THE best black polish ever, and it's less than $2. OPI can't even compare to that. Seriously. Don't get me wrong, I have some OPI colors I like such as All Rose Lead to Rome. But most are not good quality, and don't have the range of colors or finishes that other companies have.

But seriously, what is this attraction to and snobbishness about OPI? I just don't get it.

Update:

Kat,

I'm saying they don't have good quality polishes in comparison to many other brands, even less expensive brands. And they were bought out by Coty, so they DO test on animals.

I get what you're saying, and that's probably it. But what's funny to me is OPI is NOT an expensive polish, let alone that the quality is lacking. Great polishes that are more than twice as much are brands like Deborah Lippman ($18), Rescue Beauty Lounge ($18), ButterLondon ($14), NARS ($16), Chanel ($27). Meanwhile, OPI is like $8 in stores and you can find it for $4 online.

I understand what your saying how when you say to your friends that your not using OPI they're turned off, I think it's because how everybody says it's the "best" that makes people keep saying that and only want to use it, also I think it's just because they are a lot more expensive so people think ' I have the best nail polish ever and it's the best"(probably just because on the more expensive side, so they think it will make them cooler or something lol & they feel a lot specialer that they are using one of the more higher priced nail polishes.)

commerce secrets and techniques does. also, i'm exceptionally confident in case you look at the internet website they might have area of diverse shops. also, maximum nail places that carry opi will also promote it. i'd noticeably advise finished out in deco. It looks form of odd contained in the bottle, yet on the colour is a great lilac pink.

OPI is known to be of great quality. They don't test on animals which is great. Also, they are a trendy line right now, and feature the Nicole by OPI line which has the Justin Bieber 'One Less Lonely Girl' Collection.
