A cheap hotel in midtown east?

My boyfriend and I (from the UK) are visiting New York in March and need to stay somewhere in the midtown East area (preferably somewhere near 3rd Avenue/53rd Street as my parents' hotel is around there) and want to know if anyone can recommend a cheap(ish) hotel/guesthouse in this location? Is a 'cheap' hotel in this area even possible at all, and if so, what kind of budget should we be looking at for rooms? Any suggestions at all would be appreciated, thanks!

I usually stay at the Kimberly but thats far from cheap. Try the Pod hotel its located near 51st and 2nd ave. Rates start around $100.

There is a Courtyard hotel on the corner of East 52nd Street and 3rd Avenue, just a block south of the location in questions. The map at the link below show the location and name of the hotel, plus several others in the general area.

I hope this information is very helpful.

    Good luck

Try here and filter the results by landmark/area and price (low to high) after you enter your dates... http://www.nycvacationstays.com/hotels.htm It will search all the NYC hotels on the web in one shot.
