Some older CPUs are only 32 bit, and there is nothing you can do to make those 64 bit.
64 bit processors just need a 64 bit OS to run with 64 bits, like Vista 64 or Win7 64 bit. Of course, there are Linux 64 bit distributions also...

Odds are you will never need more than 3.5 gb of memory, which is what 32 bit can support. When you go past about 2gb, adding more memory wont help any on an older system. If you're really desperate, you can buy all the RAM you want and use RAMDisk software to use more than 4 gigs if you know what to use it for.

But unfortunately, 32 bit computers will only run 32 bit, and I would not advise using XP 64 bit even if you're computer could. Odds are it would make your life alot harder.

No, if your computer is running XP, it probably doesn't have a 64 bit processor. If you wanted 64 bit, you'd also have to upgrade to Windows 7, since the 64 bit version of XP *blows*, and is no longer supported.
You should still be able to upgrade your memory, just not beyond 3.5GB.

You'd have to get a brand new chipset for that. Try the new intel Core series. i7 or i5.
