1984 camaro not charging?
i have an '84 camaro with a 350. the problem is, the battery keeps dying while driving. I replaced the battery with a new one of the correct amps, and had the alternator tested. The alternator was fine, so i put it back in the car, and replaced the wire that goes from the back of the alternator to the battery. why am i still having this problem? seems like the alternator is doing nothing.
thanks for any help you can give me!
thanks for the quick response guys! i took the alternator to idiot zone and had them bench test it. they said it was good. they also sold me the battery because mine tested bad. i took it back the next day with the new battery and it tested good. Also, the terminals are clean and tight. the car ran good for the few years i had it and i have not changed anything electrical. the battery dosent die if the car is not running
OK, when they tested the alternator, the gauge said 14 (volts?) i don't even know if they checked the amps. maybe i should drive the car down there and have them check the whole car again. I'll make it, because i don't live far from the store. what do you think? the alternator is about 4 years old.
ok, took the car back to the store today, and they just told me its not charging, and the battery is fine. anymore ideas?

3 days ago... ok they tested the charging sytem on the car and failed,
but when they "bench tested" it it passed?
then, it's a wiring problem if the alternator and battery are good

Well sometimes the gauge will not read correctly. If you have a Voltmeter measure the voltage at the battery with the car on after you charge the battery . With the car off shoulld be around 12-12.5 volts DC .With the car motor running should read 14 volts DC or around. Now is some cases if something is shorted and pulling more power than the alternator can give, ie a load of some type . But if you dont read 14 volts and you had the alternator tested at a parts store , you may in fact have a open wire or poor contact at the alternator or to the power cable.

OK When they Load Test" the Alternator Were you getting "The Max. Listed Amperage?" Voltage doesn't do much good if you don't have the "Amps" to push it into the Battery and through the electrical System. [Have heard this many times (Voltage is Good but Battery won't Charge) just to find out the Amperage is Really Weak]. Belt Tension is Correct?

If the alternator and voltage regulator are good then I would suspect either the new battery is defective or the terminal clamps are bad, not passing the recharge to the battery.
