Working out the same muscles everyday?
I've recently started working out in an effort to lose fat. I've read that it's okay to do cardio everyday, but most websites say that you should not workout the same group of muscles everyday.
I'm not looking to get extremely ripped, but I want to get toned. Meaning I don't go crazy when I'm doing my arm workouts. If I do an arm workout, and my arms aren't sore the next day, is it okay to workout those same muscles again? Or is the fastest result waiting a day? I've also been doing my abs and legs everyday. Are there any problems here? Does it make a difference that I drink protein shakes after a workout to speed up recovery?

Cardio is ok to do everyday. i would actually recommend something called High Intensity interval Training. You should do it on a treadmill. Google it. Also you do not want to work the same muscle groups everyday. You should keep cardio light on leg days as well as the day after and the day before legs. You can lift three to four times a week depending on your split. Try doing something like chest/shoulders/triceps on monday, back and biceps on tuesday, Wednesday off, quads/glutes/hamstrings on thursday, and then traps/forearms and calves on friday. you can work abs 3 times a week on nonconsecutive days. This is a workout that i just did out of an M + F magazine. Seriously though you can mix it up and do whatever you want. There's tons of information on the internet and books if your're just getting started. However do not, no matter what, work the same muscle group on consecutive days. You do not want to over train.

You should not work out the same muscles every day. You are tearing your muscles and they need to rest to get toned. To get the best results you need to let them rest. The same goes for your abs and legs. And proteins shakes aren't a miracle drink, your muscles need to repair themselves. An easy fix is to do one of the three each day and vary between pilates and running on each of those days.
