Questions about American Idol and the X factor?

I was wondering If someone wishes to sign up for the auditions this summer for American idol or the X factor, does this person has to be American?

and in which state are they held..?

and how do we apply, if theres a website..

    you can be any nationallity, wagner was brazillian and was on the englsih x factor, you just need to go to the audition and sign up, check there website

    for american idol- they post the cities/dates at the website in late may or early june

    rules are posted at their site as well
