Parents want to buy a house out there because they said they are much cheaper & better taxes (then long island, NY,, my current location). Any truth to that?
Also, as I'am coming from ny will it be a big culture shock?
Also clear up some myths I have as to why I dont want to move to mississippi?:
*although the real estate taxes are much cheaper, im sure the of the state are paying out what that are saving in other outlets...
* mississippi is a hurricane state, now that is Scary
* since mississippi is so deep in the south, im sure there is no doubt racial tension like any other place in america, but i feel since ''miss'' is so deep in south that that people out there are proud to make to known and are more 'in your face about it'.
* im sure everyone there has a 'country accent'- not a big deal i guess
* im middle working class, (not rich, not poverty)-- so do the middle class in mississippi live the ''red neck lifestyle/ ways?''....
* a poor education system & medical system lacking the technological advances compared to ny metro area

I grew up and reside in Alabama near the Mississippi line. There are some of the things you mentioned racial tension, accents, and poor education in certain areas. The Jackson metro area is nice as well as North Mississippi near Memphis.
