Is it possible to revive a dead laptop battery?

I have a laptop I got as a gift a while back. When new I used it a couple of times and then put it away as I had another computer to use. Now two years later I take it out and the battery seems to be completely dead. The computer runs when I plug it in, but dies the second I pull the plug. Is it possible to revive this hardly used battery?

My son showed me a video on youtube where the guy carefully takes the battery case apart and all that is inside are regular AA re-chargeable batteries which he replaces, reassembles the case and is good to go. Not sure what to put in the youtube search box but I did see the video. Good luck.

After I wrote the above I found the video - here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr5yERNPOag

The batteries you find inside are NOT regular AA rechargeable, the are Lithium Ion. You may be able to get them at an electronics store like

Radio Shack or go to the link referenced in the video.

You can't revive a battery that slowly dissipated its charge. Lithium-Ion batteries start to lose their ability to hold a charge after so many charges, just like any rechargeable battery. DO NOT OVERVOLT A LI-ION BATTERY TO ATTEMPT TO REVIVE IT, YOU WILL CAUSE AN EXPLOSION. Sorry for the caps. You'll need to buy a new battery from the manufacturer.

I had the same problem i haven't used it in awhile and took almost 8hrs to charge it back up but if you do what stated about placing in freezer it will do something to the chem properties of battery or take case apart and put in new ni-cad if your a DIYer . After it thaws a bit cause don't want to shock your system board with cold temp, see if it will charge then. It may take a bit if drained.

place the battrey in the freezer, i do it with mine every 6-8 months and it makes it work perfectly. stick it in a carrier bag before hand.
