How much would you expect to pay a house cleaner?

2 1/2 to 3 hours of cleaning for $75 is very reasonable to me.

I just had a man contact me over the phone for house cleaning.. he was really chatty and friendly at first... just talking up a storm and telling me ALL about how horrible his last maid was and how she had stolen money from him...then when I told him my rates he immediately told me that is WAY too much and hung up on me! I was really offended by this. House cleaning is hard work!

I live in Portland, Oregon

Update:

well I am providing a service of value. When you go to buy a pair of shoes do you judge their worth based on how long the manufacturer took to make them? No, that would be silly.. you look for the value of the shoes... what they are worth.

I think 75 is reasonable. I live in boston and think it would be a bargain if you are good, friendly, easygoing, and would do areas i ask you to do.

Remember to emphasize the reasons its 75. Clean hard to do places, focus on unpleasant tasks, if you have experience fact that three hours youll do so much.

If you can guarantee stuff... That offsets price even w someone who thinks its too high.

Different rates, depending on whether company, individuals, competition, etc.

Yes, cleaning is hard work, but he probably isnn't making $25 an hour and thinks that high

Are you bonded? Do you supply cleaning supplies and vacuum? If not, then I agree with him.
