What is this funny looking thing?

We have this cast iron antique from my Great Grandfather. Anyone know what it is?

It has two spouts and the opening has grooves for something to go in it!

Picture is at http://www.flickr.com/photos/zsteve/5375487921/

Thanks!

It's a "Yellow Dog" - a type of oil lamp used for lighting: http://www.oldengine.org/members/betz/yellow_dog.h...

    Wow that is really strange!

Well I don't know that much about history but what I think it is, is some sort of 'container' that industrial workers put liquid iron/steel into it and transport it from one point to another. It looks like it was two spouts on either end so maybe they poured the liquid through there.

Do not take my answer as being correct, it's just an honest guess as to what it is.

I think b-boy has the right idea. I'm just guessing, but it could be for melting lead, or some other metal. The two necks come from the bottom of the pot, so it's probably designed to separate molten material, like a fat separator in the kitchen. The heaviest material settles to the bottom, and can be poured off, separating it from lighter material that floats on top. Don't know why there would be two "necks", though. Curious.
