Does "Game Mode" on HDTV help?

I have an HDTV and it has presets such as "Movie" or "Standard" or "Dynamic". I usually keep it at "Dynamic because the colors come out better and it's a Plasma screen so it's usually dark. There's one Preset for gaming and I've heard that it reduces Input lag. Is this true? All I notice is it makes my screen darker and I can't see anything.

There is no "standard" definition of game mode, so there is no definite answer, unless you ask the manufacturer.

In principle, yes, it should reduce input lag by removing pre or post processing, but it could just be a "marketing" check-off list.

You can always adjust brightness and contrast,

"Game" mode just turns the refresh rate off.
