What Ondine (or Undine) do you prefer?

Not necessarily your favorite, but I find that I have always preferred the Ravel Ondine to the others, mostly because of the musical imagery. In Ravel's, I can actually hear waves crashing and the siren's song. A bit odd, as I prefer Debussy as a composer over Ravel when it comes to most works.

Update:

@Del: I was going to include excerpts from a couple of the ballets, but I couldn't really find any on Youtube that were what I wanted to post on here LOL!

As much as I'd like to be contraversial... I am afraid I have to agree with you - Ravel's Ondine from Gaspard de la Nuit is the best. It is also just one part of one of Ravel's greatest masterpieces... Scarbo... it even better.

I like the version by Ivo Pogorelich best. (Followed by Argerich's).

My favourite musical work based on Fouqué's "Undine" is Dvorak's "Rusalka."

I'm a fan of Henze's ballet too, as well as E.T.A. Hoffmann's opera "Undine":

Albert Lortzing's opera "Undine" contains some very pleasant music:

Cesare Pugni composed the music for yet another ballet called "Ondine," but it left me a bit underwhelmed:

Now, if only I knew where to find a complete recording of Tchaikovsky's early opera "Undina"! There used to be a Melodiya recording, but it seems to have gone out of print. For now, these two excerpts will have to suffice:

(Notice that the duet was adapted as part of the Pas d'action in Swan Lake - one of my favourite moments in ballet!)

I actually like Hans Werner Henze's ballet 'Undine' :-)
