Why is my keyboard messed up?

Ok, so, my keyboard is kind of messed up. When i use the backspace button it types and equals sign and when i press the enter button it types a backslash. Does anyone know why and how to fix? I've already tried changing the location and language etc. and it hasn't fixed it.

Thanks

Update:

I'm pretty sure i know how to use it... it's a laptop btw and ive tried shutting down several times.

is the Num Lock button on? it would not affect the Backspace or Enter buttons though. It is possible the keyboard cable has moved, sometimes if the cable is off center then it will type odd symbols but often it is because it is damaged elsewhere, is it possible it has got wet?

Find (or buy) a USB keyboard, plug it in and type something in notepad, if you get the same issues then it is not the keyboard but Windows that is at fault. This may be harder to fix and may need a reinstall to cure it.

You can try downloading and replacing the keyboard system file (keyboard.sys) but this may not fix the issue either.

Step 1: Look on the laptop and find the make

Step 2: Load Internet Explorer and go onto Google.

Step 3: Search for the telephone number for the customer support line

Step 4: Phone the number and wait for someone to answer the phone

Step 5: Tell them about your problem and they will give you an answer.

Step 6: Follow the steps the representative gives you over the phone and fix the problem.

Perhaps your keyboard is fine and you just don't comprehend how to use it.
