Why do people like the Sims so much?
I have been answering PC gaming related questions for the last couple of weeks, and I've noticed countless questions about The Sims 3. I own the game and personally think it is crap, the second one was WAY better. but still, I didn't even like the sims 2 that much.
I just want to know what people see in it. Even with my low end knowledge about in-game affairs, I still answer technical problems with the game, and I would like to know why people tend to enjoy this game series so much.

The games are slightly addictive,and i second that, the 3rd one is horrid

I started playing the sims when the first one came out, the draw of being able to control a fake person and kinda live their life was neat, the second improved that with aging but it got old fast because it was always the same thing, make a person live their life repeat, I eventually just spent my time trying to create elaborate houses because the other part of the game wasnt as interesting. I never bought the third one but i can see why(if its their first/second game in the series) still like it.

i honestly don't know why, but i'm addicted to it. i know it's stupid and there's no real point in it, but i love it.
maybe it's just the ability to control others lives that make it so much fun.
or maybe it's because when people play as "themselves" they can choose their future and make their sims do everything they've always wanted
