Do I need a special machine to quilt?

I have a fairly basic sewing machine. Not a high-end thing, but with a wide array of stiches and foots and whatnot.

I've been wanting to try quilting, but do I need a special machine to do it? I just feel like the process of quilting itself would be hard on a standard machine such as that. I have a walking foot...

Sorry, I know it seems like a silly question.

    Nothing special needed.

To make the process a little easier, a 1/4" foot for piecing (you can make due with a pad of sticky

notes, layered painter's blue tape or moleskin to help you maintain a 1/4" seam allowance.

The walking foot will be needed, and darning foot (which you may also have) for quilting.

The darning foot is also known as a free-motion foot as you lower or cover the feed dogs and move the quit at random or in the shape of a design.

This would be a good starter set for cutting - http://www.overstock.com/Crafts-Sewing/Fiskars-Rot... Check JoAnn and Walmart for the same item.

Be careful with any rotary cutter as they are essentially a rolling razor blade.

Start with a small wall quilt. This will be less bulk and less intimidating.
