What edible fish can I put in my pond?
I am vegetarian and want to eat fish for health, but don't want to buy them as I'm not sure which ones are sustainable. The pond isn't huge really. I am in the Bay Area [as in San Francisco Bay] in California. What edible species could do well there that I could get? Thank you:)

Any of the sunfish(bluegill) family would work well, they don't get huge though. They do spawn and breed quickly.
If your pond has a lot of cover and rocky spots then catfish would be a good bet. If you don't have any cover in your pond they may not have a spot that they find favorable to breed and you would have to restock as you caught them.
I like back bass, not all people think they are particularly tasty but some do. If you have plentiful bluegill in the pond already then you wouldn't even have to feed them and they would be self sustaining in a year to two.
Trout are very tasty but typically cannot breed in still water. You could stock them but that would be almost as expensive as just buying fish at the market as you would have to buy them and feed them until they are of edible size.
Good luck and I hope you find something that works for you.

sounds like Trout Boy and Chad be attentive to what they're speaking approximately yet one factor is which you haven't any longer advised us what state or section the pond is in. I agree travis does not have a clue approximately trout.... rainbow and brown are the two your proper guess and you maximum possibly do choose a enable (verify with state). while you're in a community the place the water temperature gets quite heat like GA or FL or AL - 15 toes isn't adequate till the pond is circulate AND spring fed. in case you grant greater guidance you may get a greater effective answer....

Well in the US catfish and trout are popular. Catfish probably will spawn faster. But in other countries people eat carp.

Bluegill, Lepomis macrochirus.
They spawn quick and grow fast. They're excellent when fried.
